SOCIAL IMPACT & CONSERVATION
doing our part for Conservation
Environmental impact and the waste hauling industry goes hand in hand. As we have learned more about carbon emissions, landfill runoff, and the very nature of how we consume and utilize products in the United States, we have always tried to do our part in protecting the environment.
We were one of the first independent haulers to offer residential recycling services in Pennsylvania and have continually offered and expanded that service to offering recycling in all 3 states that we operate in.
We operate our own material recovery facility in Altoona, Pennsylvania where we intake and process recyclable materials. As of 2022 we have significantly invested in the areas first fully automated recycling facility, which will be able to sort recyclable materials through the aid of robotic controls, enhancing the cleanliness of our product ensuring that everything that can be recycled is recycled.
recycling
As a company we are committed to the promotion of recycling in all forms even beyond the traditional plastic and paper streams. We have advanced our recycling operations to offer LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) recycling streams. This service allows for the recycling of common construction and demolition waste, such as unpainted wood and drywall, metal, shingles, brick, and concrete. This allows us to work closely with contractors who are building ever more energy efficient structures throughout our region.
cng (compressed natural gas)
To battle our carbon footprint, we have since 2013 owned and operated a compressed natural gas filling station in Altoona. As a part of that expansion, we converted the majority of our truck fleet operating from our Altoona division to CNG. This dramatically lowers our output of emissions as the CNG trucks do not produce the level of emissions that traditional diesel vehicles do.
We hope to expand our clean fuel operation to the rest of the fleet, as more CNG filling stations are opened. In the meantime, we will continue to invest in quality vehicles that are held to ever more rigorous emission standards and adopting more fuel-efficient technologies wherever possible.
